Encryption at rest

Protecting stored data - such as saved responses - so it stays unreadable if the underlying storage is ever accessed without authorization.

Encryption in transit

Protecting data while it travels between a respondent's device and the server, typically via HTTPS/TLS, so it can't be read if intercepted.

Use terms carefully

Clear definitions improve survey decisions

Terms such as anonymous, representative, significant, confidential, compliant, and secure carry specific expectations. Use them only when your survey method and implementation actually support the claim.
