Getting startedCreating your first surveyFrom your dashboard to your first published survey in a few minutes.+
From your dashboard, click + New Survey. Give it a title and a short description, then choose a type: Free, Subscription, or Pay-per-response (see our guide on choosing between them).
You can start from a blank survey, pick one of our ready-made templates, or describe what you want to learn and let the AI Survey Generator draft the questions for you.
Once you've added at least one question, click Publish. Your survey gets a unique public link immediately - share it however you like.
What happens next
Responses appear in real time on your Responses dashboard.
You can keep editing questions while the survey is live - new questions apply to future responses only.
Close the survey any time from the same page to stop accepting new responses.
Getting startedUnderstanding survey types: Free, Subscription, and Pay-per-responseThe three ways a survey can be set up, and how each one is limited.+
Every survey you create is one of three types, chosen when you create it:
Free
No purchase required. Capped by admin-configured limits (maximum questions and maximum responses per survey) so you can try the product before subscribing.
Subscription
Governed by your active plan. Your plan sets limits like total surveys, questions per survey, and responses per month - upgrade any time from your Billing page to raise them.
Pay-per-response
No subscription needed. You prepay for a bucket of response credits, and each completed response consumes one credit. When credits run out, the survey stops accepting new responses until you top up - it never goes over budget on its own.
You can mix survey types freely on the same account - a subscription doesn't require every survey to use it.
Getting startedPublishing and sharing your surveyWhat changes when you publish, and where to find your share link.+
A new survey starts as a Draft - only you can see it. Click Publish once it's ready; this requires at least one question.
After publishing, your survey's public link appears at the top of its edit page. Anyone with the link can open and respond to it, unless you've made it private (see below).
Making a survey private
Toggle Private in the survey details form and set an access password. Respondents will need that password to open the survey - useful for internal or invite-only research.
Closing a survey
Click Close survey at any time to stop accepting new responses. Existing responses stay intact and remain visible on your dashboard.
Survey designChoosing the right question typeA quick guide to every question type and when to use it.+
Picking the right question type makes your data much easier to analyze later. Here's what's available:
Short text / Long text - open-ended answers. Use long text for anything that needs more than a sentence.
Single choice / Multiple choice / Dropdown - pick-one or pick-many from a fixed list. Dropdown is a good space-saver for long option lists.
Rating (1-5) / NPS (0-10) - quick sentiment scales. Use NPS specifically for "how likely are you to recommend" questions.
Matrix / grid - rate several rows against the same set of columns in one compact table (e.g. rating five features on the same Poor-to-Excellent scale).
Ranking - respondents order a list of items by preference, rather than rating them independently.
Slider - a numeric answer on a continuous range, with optional labels at each end.
Date / Email / Number - validated single-value fields.
File upload - lets respondents attach a document or image (Professional plan and above).
Signature - captures a drawn signature, useful for consent or acknowledgment questions.
Mark any question Required to block submission until it's answered.
Survey designUsing skip logic to shorten your surveyEnd the survey early based on a single-choice or dropdown answer.+
Skip logic lets a single-choice or dropdown question end the survey immediately if the respondent picks a specific answer - every later question is skipped, both visually and in what gets validated on submit.
To set it up, add the question, then fill in the Skip logic field with the exact option text that should end the survey (comma-separated if there's more than one, e.g. No, Under 18). The text must match one of the question's own options exactly.
A common use is a screening question at the start - "Have you used our product in the last 30 days?" - where a "No" answer should end the survey rather than asking product-specific follow-ups.
Skip logic requires a plan with the Survey Logic capability. If your survey doesn't need it, later questions are simply asked in order.
Survey designStarting from a templateBrowse the public template catalog or pick one while creating a survey.+
Templates are ready-made question sets built for common use cases - customer satisfaction, event feedback, employee engagement, and more.
Browse the full catalog at /survey/templates and open any template to preview its questions before using it. You can also pick a template directly from the New Survey form via the "Start from a template" dropdown.
Using a template copies its questions into your new survey - after that, they're yours to edit, reorder, or delete freely, exactly like questions you added manually. If a template has more questions than your plan allows per survey, only the first ones (up to your limit) are copied, and you'll be notified so you can upgrade if you want the rest.
Survey designUsing the AI Survey GeneratorDescribe what you want to learn and let AI draft your questions.+
On the New Survey form, the "Generate with AI" field lets you describe what you want to learn in plain language - for example, "A customer satisfaction survey for an online bookstore" - and the generator drafts a complete set of questions for you.
Generated questions land in your survey exactly like manually-added ones: fully editable, reorderable, and deletable. Review them before publishing, since AI-drafted wording is a starting point, not a final draft.
If your plan has a cap on questions per survey, generation respects it - you'll get as many questions as your limit allows rather than being blocked outright.
You can either pick a template or describe a prompt for AI generation, not both, for a single survey creation.
DistributionSharing your survey: link, QR code, and email invitationsThree ways to get your survey in front of respondents.+
Every published survey has a public link shown at the top of its edit page - copy it and share it anywhere: email, chat, social media, or your own website.
QR code
Available on Starter plans and above. Click QR code on your survey's edit page to generate one instantly, and download it for print materials, posters, or receipts.
Email invitations
Also available on Starter and above. Paste up to 100 email addresses at a time (separated by commas, spaces, or new lines) and we'll send each one a personalized invitation with a direct link to your survey. Sent invitations are logged on the same page so you can see who's been reached.
DistributionSetting up a custom domain for your surveysServe your surveys from your own domain instead of ours.+
Business plans and above can serve surveys from a domain you own - for example surveys.yourcompany.com - instead of our default domain.
From your Custom Domain settings, enter your domain and save it. You'll be shown DNS records to add at your domain provider (usually a CNAME record). Once added, click Verify now - DNS changes can take a few minutes to propagate, so if verification fails immediately, wait a bit and try again.
Once connected, your survey links and your public creator profile at the root URL are both served from your domain automatically - no changes needed to links you've already shared, since your original survey links keep working too.
DistributionScheduling your survey to open and close automaticallySet a publish time and a close time in advance.+
Professional plans and above can schedule exactly when a survey goes live and when it stops accepting responses, without needing to click Publish or Close manually.
On your survey's edit page, under Scheduling:
Publish automatically at - only available while the survey is still a draft. It goes live on its own at the time you set.
Close automatically at - available regardless of status. Once this time passes, new responses stop being accepted, exactly like clicking Close survey manually.
This is useful for time-boxed research windows, or for lining up a survey to launch with a campaign or event without needing someone available to press publish at the right moment.
Responses and dataExporting responses to CSV, Excel, and PDFThree export formats, each with different plan requirements.+
From your survey's Responses tab:
Export CSV - available on every plan. A raw row-per-response file with every question as a column.
Export Excel - requires a plan with the Excel export capability. Same data as CSV, delivered as a real .xlsx workbook.
Export PDF report - requires a plan with the PDF reports capability. A formatted summary report with charts per question, rather than a raw data dump.
All three exports reflect the same underlying data - file uploads and signatures export as direct download links, and matrix answers export as readable "row: column" pairs rather than raw JSON.
Responses and dataReviewing individual responsesRead a single respondent's full set of answers.+
Click View next to any response in your Responses tab to see everything that respondent submitted, question by question - including open text answers, uploaded files (with a download link), signatures (rendered as an image), and ranking order, none of which show up in the aggregate summary.
This is the place to go when the dashboard's summary numbers raise a question you want to dig into - for example, reading the actual comments behind a low satisfaction score.
Team and billingChoosing a plan: subscription vs. pay-per-response creditsTwo different ways to pay, and when each one makes sense.+
Your account can use both models at once - they're not mutually exclusive:
Subscription plans
A recurring monthly or annual fee that raises your limits across the board - more surveys, more questions per survey, more responses per month, plus feature capabilities like QR codes, email invitations, scheduling, and exports. Best if you run surveys regularly.
Pay-per-response credits
A one-time purchase of a fixed number of response credits, spent only by surveys you've explicitly set to the Pay-per-response type. Best for occasional, one-off research where a recurring subscription isn't worth it.
Manage both from your Billing page - see your current subscription, its renewal status, and your remaining credit balance in one place.
Team and billingManaging your team and seatsInvite teammates and share limits across an organization (Enterprise).+
Enterprise plans include a fixed number of seats, letting you invite teammates to share your organization's survey limits instead of each person needing their own subscription.
From your Team page, send an invite by email. Once accepted, that person becomes a member of your organization and their surveys count against your shared plan limits. You can promote trusted members to Admin, which lets them manage billing and invite others alongside you.
Remove a member at any time to free up their seat, or leave a team you've joined if you're no longer part of it (the team owner can't leave their own team - ownership would need to transfer first).
Team and billingUnderstanding response credits for pay-per-response surveysHow credits are purchased, consumed, and topped up.+
Pay-per-response surveys don't use your subscription's monthly response limit - instead, each completed response consumes one prepaid credit from your balance.
Buy credits from your Billing page, choosing how many you need at the current per-response price. Credits apply account-wide - any pay-per-response survey you run draws from the same balance.
When a survey's creator runs out of credits, that specific survey stops accepting new responses (other surveys are unaffected) until more credits are purchased. You'll get an email as soon as this happens so you don't lose momentum on active research.
Security and SSOSetting up two-factor authentication (MFA)Add an authenticator-app code as a second sign-in step.+
From your Security settings, click Enable two-factor authentication. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy, or similar), then enter the 6-digit code it generates to confirm setup.
You'll be shown a set of one-time recovery codes - save them somewhere safe. Each one can be used once to sign in if you ever lose access to your authenticator app, and they're only ever shown at setup time.
Once enabled, every sign-in asks for your password first, then your 6-digit code (or a recovery code). You can regenerate recovery codes or disable two-factor authentication entirely from the same Security page.
Security and SSOConnecting single sign-on (SSO) for your organizationSAML and OpenID Connect, for Business plans and above.+
SSO lets your team sign in through your company's identity provider (Okta, Azure AD, Google Workspace, and others) instead of a separate password. Configure it from your organization's SSO settings, choosing either SAML or OpenID Connect depending on what your identity provider supports.
For SAML, enter your identity provider's Entity ID, Sign-On URL, and X.509 certificate. For OpenID Connect, enter just the issuer URL, client ID, and client secret - we look up the rest of the configuration automatically.
Once enabled, team members can sign in either by visiting your organization's dedicated SSO link, or - if you've added and verified your company's email domain under Verified Domains - simply by entering their work email on the main login page, which routes them to the right identity provider automatically.
Security and SSOProvisioning users automatically with SCIMLet your identity provider create, update, and remove accounts.+
SCIM (available on the Enterprise plan) lets your identity provider automatically create, update, and deactivate team member accounts as people join, change roles, or leave your company - no manual invite step needed.
From your SCIM settings, generate a provisioning token and copy the SCIM base URL into your identity provider's SCIM configuration. From then on, user changes in your identity provider sync here automatically.
If your identity provider also syncs Groups, you can map any synced group to automatically grant its members the Admin role - membership changes upstream keep the mapping in sync without any manual steps here.
Security and SSOUsing the API and webhooksPull your data programmatically or get notified the moment a response arrives.+
The REST API (Professional plans and above) lets you list your surveys, fetch a single survey's questions, and list its completed responses programmatically. Generate a Bearer token from your API Tokens settings and send it in the Authorization header on every request.
Webhooks (Business plans and above) push data to you instead - register a URL and we'll send an HTTP POST the moment a respondent completes a survey. Every delivery is signed with your webhook secret using HMAC-SHA256 so you can verify it genuinely came from us before trusting the payload.
Both features are managed from your creator panel - tokens and webhooks can be revoked or paused at any time, and revoking one takes effect immediately.
